Leaders for Ladders, part of the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), invites high school or college students between the ages of 16-21 to participate in paid internships and jobs in New York City.
The deadline for the application is March 31st.
The program begins on July 5th and ends on August 19th.
The Leaders for Ladders pre-employment phase includes 30 hours of unpaid workshops as a requirement to explore career paths and job training to prepare participants for different roles. If participants don’t attend mandatory workshops, they will be dismissed from the program.
The internship will develop over six weeks with students working 25 to 40 hours per week depending on your employer. Participants will be paid at least 15 dollars per hour, but the cost of food and transportation will not be covered.
Students share their experiences about whether they don’t sign up or sign up for SYEP.
WJPS junior, Nick Persaud said, “I signed up for SYEP because over the summer I have nothing to do. I also like having extra money to save and spend over the summer, while also getting job experience to put on a resume.”
WJPS junior, Punnapa Lou said, “I didn’t sign up for SYEP because I want to focus more on academics.”
