Electronic sports, also known as e-Sports, is a form of professional competitive sports through the use of online gameplay.
Throughout the beginning of 2023, many Esport organizations started laying off workers in cycles.
Recently many Esport organizations and companies, consisting of, but not limited to FaZe Clan, TSM, The Guard, 100Thieves, Beyond The Summit, and Sentinels, have begun letting go of their staff.
There have been extreme cases in laying off workers with The Guard and Beyond The Summit. These two companies have laid off every single staff member, slowly closing their organizations.
According to the companies, the reason for these series of layoffs throughout the months are a lack of sponsorships from other companies and overhiring.
WJPS freshman, Jack Montgomery, stated, “It’s unfortunate to see how quickly people can lose their jobs, especially with circumstances they can barely control.”
WJPS freshman, Alan Garcia stated, “It’s awful especially considering if these people who are losing jobs have families they need to support they can’t as they’re now out of work.”
