The MTA cut off all free Wi-Fi from their buses on January 14th, 2023 due to the low rates of use.
Availability of Wi-Fi has been around since 2016. WiFi was available on 4,266 buses. Cutting off the Wi-Fi service will lead the MTA to save $33 million every year.
WJPS junior, Vasiliki Kostakis stated, “I myself didn’t get the chance to use the free Wi-Fi in the bus, but it would have been nice to try out. Although for other people the removal of the free wifi could have hurt them more due to them losing something really useful when taking the bus.”
WJPS junior, Alexsandre Arroyo said, “The negative side of this was that the Wi-Fi was said to be a useless feature to have and I disagree with this because the passengers that use it are going to now have to deal with a boring ride while the ones with great data are following up with their tasks.”
