This year a new tree has been selected to be presented at the Rockefeller Center. This tree comes from Queensbury, New York and is an 82-foot tall and 50 feet wide Norway Spruce Tree. Donated by the Lebowitz family of Glens Falls, it is said to be 85 to 90 years old.
The tree will be cut down and will travel all the way to Manhattan where it will be displayed and decorated with more than 50,000 LED lights and topped with a Swarovski Crystal star. The tree will be lit on the evening of November 30th.
WJPS junior Eliza Kurshumilu stated, “ I feel like the lighting of the Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Center is a great way to bring people to see a beautiful site. I feel like it’s a gathering place and for people to be able to somehow reflect on what’s going on in the world and overall a great way to come together and have a great time.”
WJPS junior Kelly Lucero said, “I feel that once the tree is lit up it demonstrates that Christmas is just around the corner and New Yorkers will feel the Christmas spirit. I also feel that since COVID has settled down a bit this Christmas will feel different than last year.”
