Advanced Placement classes were created by the College Board in order to offer students a class that can provide a college level curriculum and exam. It also provides a chance for students to earn some college credits while still in high school.
AP environmental science, or APES for short, is taught by one of World Journalism Preparatory School’s science teachers, Mr. Van Deurs.
“What do we know about the Earth and how have we changed the Earth, and what can we do to mitigate those negative changes to the Earth?” commented Mr. Van Deurs with regards to what APES can be summarized as.
Students learn about the food web of a particular ecosystem to what the gross domestic products per capita tells us about the health of a country’s citizens and even the porosity of a type of soil.
WJPS senior, David Montoya stated, “I would definitely recommend students to take AP environmental science because it offers a look into the intensity of college level science classes and it prepares students for the difficult topics and rigorous coursework that they will experience in college.”
