A New Chapter

A+New+Chapter

Turning 18 can mean a lot of different things for students. You’re considered a young adult under the law, meaning you can move out of your parents’ home, drive without parental supervision, work full-time, own a house and vehicle, vote, and even get married.

Here at WJPS, the class of 2023 already has some 18-year-olds.

“It’s a lot of responsibility and work, because you’re learning how to be more independent and you need to know how to financially budget your own money. I’m balancing out my priorities at home and at school,” commented 18 year old WJPS senior, Charlize Polo.

Polo also said that she can get a job without requiring a lot of parental permission, pay her own phone bill, and have her own credit card and bank account.

“I think it’s very stressful because you don’t know where you’re going in life yet, and you’ve been with the same crowd of people almost your entire life. You’ve been so used to high school that the changes college will bring will drastically change your life,” said WJPS teacher, Mr. Thompson.
