At WJPS, an entire week in May was dedicated to environmental awareness.
During fourth and sixth period lunches, there were activities throughout the week to engage students in environmental awareness. Activities included drawing, painting, designing t-shirts, hats, and paper flowers, and participating in the school mural.
On that Tuesday, there was a bake and snack sale. Thursday was Fashion Day, where students were encouraged to put an outfit together using recycled materials or wear something that spread a message about the environment.
The goal was to get students engaged and thinking about the environment.
“Environmental awareness is not someone else’s job; it is everyone’s job to protect our planet — our Earth!” said WJPS Assistant Principal Ms. Bassell.
WJPS junior and Green Team member Thekli Chronis said, “The purpose of environmental awareness week is to show respect and recycle and protect the environment.”
