KenKen is a numerical puzzle similar to Sudoku. It utilizes all four basic math computations to solve a puzzle in which no column or row can have a repeated number. 

The numbers in a darkened box must combine to the bolded number in the darkened box’s top left via the mathematical computation next to that number.

In 2004, KenKen was created by Japanese math instructor, Tetsuya Miyamoto, to improve his students’ math and logic skills.

Mr. Lai, a mathematics teacher at WJPS, gives his students KenKen every Friday in order to challenge them and develop their problem solving skills.

Mr. Lai stated, “It’s a good way to develop perseverance and logical thinking.”

Kayla Blaskovic, who takes part in KenKens weekly stated, “I always take a more challenging KenKen. Having to struggle and overcome mistakes while completing it makes me feel great about myself when it’s finally done. I believe KenKen has really improved my perseverance.”
