The bottom line is that it’s weird. Having no librarian does not make sense. How is anyone going to know how to take and sign out books? Not to mention, there’s often trash on the tables and some computers do not work. There needs to be someone watching over the library.
Ms. Riffkin, an occupational therapist for WJPS, commented, “I love books and I think students not having access to no librarian takes away from the enrichment of reading. It helps students in numerous ways and there should at least be a volunteer or anything rather than having no one.”
WJPS teacher Ms. Shields said, “I think it would be nice to have a librarian so that way we can have our students check out these resources they might not know about.”
As for the students, WJPS junior, Christina Merlino stated, “I personally think libraries need to have a librarian because how are kids supposed to know where books go.”
Others like Maria Sojos, WJPS junior disagree, “I don’t think we should have a librarian because right now we don’t have one and I don’t see anything wrong with it.”
WJPS junior, Sofia Alarcon believes, “Personally, I feel like we don’t really need one because it seems like we’ve been doing alright without one.”
Mr. Lumetta, WJPS guidance counselor stated, “The reason why we don’t have a librarian yet is one, it’s really expensive and two the city won’t allocate funds to allow us to get a librarian. It’s funny because we’ve been trying to since we redid the library which was about seven years ago.”
This school should have a librarian so it is easier for students to access books they want to read. Also, they can keep track of who can enter the library because anyone in the building can walk in now without permission.
