In these modern times when the majority of people use cell phones frequently, some believe that phones have become a distraction to students, especially in school where they are trying to learn.
In the past few weeks, some WJPS teachers have become more strict about enforcing the school’s “off and away throughout the day” phone policy, asking students to put their phones away or taking them until the end of the period or even the end of the school day.
Andrew Koziol, a sophomore at WJPS stated, “I think phones aren’t a distraction in class because it can somewhat help a student but I think it’s something the teachers should keep on top of.”
WJPS senior Eltzy Galindo said, “The students attention is divided between two things, what the teacher is trying to teach and what the student is trying to do on their phones and because of that they end up not paying attention and leading them on not being able to do their work correctly.”
