With the end of the cricket unit, many students questioned what sport we would do for the next unit in physical education. WJPS teacher Mr. Maroney planned for the next challenge to be team handball.
Some students were confused because handball is not a common sport in America. Mr. Maroney described the sport as a mix of basketball and soccer.
To play team handball, there are a few rules. First, you are only allowed to hold the ball for three seconds until you pass it to a teammate. Players can only take three steps before either passing or shooting the ball. Finally, players are not allowed to pass the goalie crease for any reason.
WJPS senior Russell Guerra said, “I think it’s actually a really fun sport. We’ve been playing it in the gym for years, and it’s been really fun. The sport itself is really interesting, and it’s fun to watch as well.”
WJPS senior Yarelly Ramirez said, “I think it’s a better alternative to cricket. I think handball is a good team sport, and it could be a lot of fun.”
