WJPS is a school with many creative students. We may not have the same theater program of years past, but that doesn’t mean theater in this school is completely gone.
Taking place on Wednesdays for high schoolers and Fridays for middle schoolers during routine lunch periods, this new theater club brings new opportunities for all students who enjoy theater and wish to interact more with the community of live theater itself.
There have been a couple of problems while trying to introduce this club, however, in scheduling and membership.
“The high school club began last Wednesday. The scheduling logistics were being worked out two weeks ago, so the first meeting announcement was kind of spur of the moment right after we came back from Lunar New Year. The meetings will be announced during morning announcements,” said WJPS adviser of the theater club, Ms. Mills.
“Currently, we have five to six students. We are in the process of creating an effective way to get the word out about the club,” Mills said.
Someone from the club should be the point person that talks to the administration, and the club advisor should help with scheduling and communication. Besides hanging up signs, making morning announcements, and sending emails out, there should a short performance that other students could attend. That would do a lot to bring attention to the club.
As a theater fan and member of the theater club, there’s hope that all club-related issues can be fully resolved soon.
