WJPS is known for its signature navy blue and yellow logo and its implemented matching uniform. However, in recent times, students in the hallways have been spotted wearing different colored sweaters with wording that display more than WJPS’s logo.
Clubs at WJPS have the opportunity to collaboratively make sweaters that focus more on their extracurricular activities than WJPS’s logo, as generally seen on the uniform.
These sweaters are meant to “build up club membership, and also encourage students to be involved in extracurricular activities for college applications,” said WJPS assistant principal Mr. Petrotta.
For some, they are way for students to express pride in their extracurricular activities.
Student government president, senior Katherine Pappas said, “it’s a good way to unify the club, and it’s fun for club members to design sweaters as a team-building exercise.”
Similarly, WJPS students who participate in Francis Lewis High School Athletics can also be seen sporting different types of sweaters.
“We have always been very proud of our connection with Francis Lewis High School Athletics,” said Mr. Petrotta.
For this reason, WJPS Junior Dayssy Acuahuitl said, “I enjoy wearing my soccer hoodie for comfort, just as much as I enjoy the acknowledgment it brings. Knowing that my hard efforts don’t go unrecognized by my peers brings me great joy, like a win.”
