Twitter, a micro-blog social media platform with over 211 million daily users, recently released their NFT compatibility through the use of profile pictures.
Non-fungible tokens, also known as NFTs, are a kind of digital asset that comes in the forms of images, gifs, or short videos. The value of NFTs range from hundreds of dollars to upwards of one million dollars.
People can create their own digital assets and display them on Twitter. NFTs values are defined through their creators name and its visual uniqueness.
Once someone connects their crypto wallet and has ownership of an NFT, they will be given the option to put their NFT as their profile picture, being given a hexagon border to display it.
WJPS junior, Emily Falsone stated, “I think it was a good idea for Twitter to incorporate NFTs into their platform as it will add a purpose and value for the cryptographic tokens. People will want to buy them in order to use on their account, increasing their demand, helping the market.”
WJPS junior, Luca Vivar Amaya said, “It doesn’t really do anything, there are no benefits, there doesn’t seem like there was much of a point, they’re just appealing to what’s popular.”
