Farewell BlackBerry

Farewell+BlackBerry

BlackBerry Limited is a pioneer of the first smartphones offering cellular phone service, emails, and Internet accessibility. The BlackBerry was created in 2002.

Recently BlackBerry Limited stopped support for the BlackBerry OS, this meaning BlackBerry devices no longer function.

This came as a shock to some as it was a top smartphone option for more than a decade after it’s launch, peaking at 85 million users worldwide in September of 2013.

As the years went by, BlackBerry saw a decline in users as their competitors Apple and Samsung began to rise.

Although these phones no longer work they are retaining their value still going for a few hundred dollars being seen as a vintage item depending on the phone.

WJPS junior, Diego Hernandez stated, “It’s not the worst thing, lately most people run on either Android or Apple products. Most people these days have newer generation phones so I don’t think it’s much of a problem.”

WJPS teacher, Eunji Kim said, “I never owned a BlackBerry, but it represented our culture and my generation. It’s sad to see that our iconic culture is slowly fading away.”
