Discord, the social media platform, announced the beginning of its annual Snowsgiving event last week, intending to raise money for a charity named To Write Love On Her Arms, an organization aiming to help people who struggle with addiction, depression and hope to help them recover.
The end-of-the-year Discord event is a time for the community to get together and is managed by the community and the Discord developers.
Throughout the event, gifts were given to the community, such as stickers and emotes, which can be sent in a message, server role images used in your server, and backgrounds made by the community.
Items were available to purchase, such as a custom keyboard, sweaters, and hoodies. All purchases will go to the charity, and the goal for this year was to raise two hundred thousand dollars.
Within a few days, the community surpassed the goal, reaching more than three hundred thousand dollars.
The Discord Townhall, a server within Discord used to ask for help and a place to congregate, was revamped to celebrate the Snowsgiving event. The server was able to reach 100-thousand members within two days.
WJPS junior Rafey Shahid said, “I thought that it was very fun, and it added a lot to the app, and I think they should do it again for other holidays.”
David Montoya, also a WJPS junior said, “It was really great, compared to last year’s, this one felt better, and I’m hoping they do it again next year.”
