During 2020’s COVID-19 quarantine, students were not able to participate in in-person community service projects. While some students were able to do virtual community service, many students were not able to participate in any activities over quarantine.
Now being back this semester, many students have begun collaboratively creating community service projects. These events include Alumni Day and Rake for Fall.
WJPS senior, Alvin Zeng said, “Community service being back during COVID is a major plus effect towards our community and city. It has allowed us to interact and help us perform duties that can benefit the community.”
WJPS senior, Stefany Lin said, “I’ve always enjoyed doing community service and I’m glad I can come back after being quarantined or restricted for so long. I think it’s effective and safe as long as the participants know how to use protection.”
Similarly, WJPS teacher, Ms. Papazoglou, said, “students need to feel that they are not being stopped from doing these things because of COVID-19. So if organizing small events outside of school will eventually lead to us going back inside, let us continue to social distance and wear our masks.”
