Recently, Apple announced a self-service repair program to be implemented for their products. Customers with knowledge of phone repair will now be able to buy over 200 parts and tools at an Apple store to repair iPhones, iPads, and other Apple products.
There has been increasing pressure on Apple to allow third parties access to their parts and the ability to repair products since the iPhone 12 was designed to be impossible to fix outside of an Apple technician.
WJPS senior Arianna Asencio, said, “It’s good that Apple is starting to listen to its customers more, but for the average person, they will still have to get their device repaired at Apple, so I feel it was a pointless upgrade.”
Apple heavily advises the average consumer to fix their device if they have no prior knowledge of technological repairs. The program was primarily designed for phone repair companies and people with extensive knowledge of repairs.
Diego Figueroa, a freshman at WJPS, said, “I don’t personally know how to repair my phone, but I can see how a lot of people would benefit from this new program.”
