Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, has stepped down as CEO. In an email to his employees, Dorsey explained the reasoning for his departure.
“There’s a lot of talk about the importance of a company being “founder-led,” Dorsey stated. “Ultimately, I believe that’s severely limiting and a single point of failure. I’ve worked hard to ensure this company can break away from its founding and founders.”
Dorsey will be replaced by Parag Agrawal, the chief technology officer since 2017, who joined the Twitter team as a software engineer 10 years ago.
The former CEO will remain on the board of directors for the remainder of his term to help the transition. After that, he’ll be leaving the board, most likely in May.
Nicholas Martinez, a senior at WJPS, said, “It will be interesting to see what changes the new CEO brings.”
Another senior at WJPS, Samuel Park, said, “I feel like Twitter is going to get even worse than it already is.”
