New York City schools are required to follow social distancing guidelines. Students must be at least three feet apart.
In the classroom, desks are placed in rows and kept that way in the classroom to follow the social distancing guidelines. There is also supposed to be at least one window or door open for ventilation.
However, when students go to the gym or walk in the hallways, social distancing protocols are forgotten. Students will often crowd together throughout the day when they are not in their classrooms.
Crowding often happens during gym. Students also play volleyball and basketball which are considered close contact sports and high risk according to the city
In the hallways, students are packed together as they work their way to their next class. There are also students bumping into each other often.
Social distancing is important and students tend to forget that during gym and while walking the hallways. Students should try to remind themselves as much as possible on what to do.
Staff can work to mention social distancing in morning announcements. The school can also have hall monitors remind students of the proper policies.
