Twitch, an Amazon owned live streaming service for video games that launched in 2011 recently had a data breach.
This data breach leaked private information such as account login credentials, twitch source codes, and it’s livestreamers payouts which started from August 2019, to September 2021.
Twitchs source code leak displayed information relating to Amazon’s plan on competing with Steam, a video game distribution site service created by Valve.
Twitch is home to many top content creators such as xQcOW, Pokimane, and Ludwig.
This list of payouts had information on over the top 10,000 streamers. The earnings of these streamers went all the way to the millions. Their earnings were defined from bits (twitch currency), subscriptions, and advertisements.
Some controversy had arisen as a result of this payment leak, people argued over whether these streamers were being paid too much money.
Skyy Williams, a WJPS junior stated, “If people enjoy what they are doing and are donating I’m not going to knock on their hustle, they’re entertainers afterall.”
Keuntae Yim, another WJPS junior said,“They are entertaining millions of people, I believe they’re just doing their job really well so it’s fine if they get paid millions of dollars.”
