Facebook had a major outage in October that lasted for six hours along with Instagram, Whatsapp, and OculusVR. In a blog post the same day, Facebook explained that it was caused by a configuration change to its routers.
The incident came one day before Facebook whistleblower, Frances Haugen, testified before a Senate subcommittee, accusing the company of knowingly influencing its problems for profit. With thousands of pages of research and documents, she called on Congress to take action.
As a result of the claims, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg dropped seven billion dollars in his net worth. The next day, he released a statement on his personal Facebook page claiming the whistleblower took the thousands of pages of research out of context and that she couldn’t be trusted to paint an accurate picture of the company.
WJPS Junior Emily Falsone said, “I think it’s crazy that people can make so much money off advertisements and stuff like that online. In that small amount of time, he lost seven billion dollars, that’s crazy.”
