Google has begun to send cease and desist letters to popular Discord bots such as Rhythm and Groovy, both of which were used for listening to music from YouTube, Spotify, and other music services.
Music bots are popular among many Discord servers, where people would get together to sing or listen to it just to relax together.
Rhythm and Groovy are the most well-known music bots throughout Discord. However, their popularity has reached Google.
Google sent cease and desist letters to the music bot’s respective developers, stating that they violated YouTube’s Terms of Service for “modifying and using for commercial purposes.”
Both developers have agreed to end their services, stating that “We knew this would happen sooner or later.”
Developers of Rhythm Bot have said they are working on a project that will “revolutionize the way we listen to music.”
Nicholas Martinez, a senior at WJPS, said, “It is sad that Rhythm and Groovy Bot had to go, I really liked using them.”
Discord is working with Google to create “Watch Together”, a system that would let users watch YouTube videos together in a voice call, to fix the problems that have been made.
