Eligibility for Covid-19 Vaccination expands to 16 and over

Eligibility+for+Covid-19+Vaccination+expands+to+16+and+over

Starting on April 6th, eligibility expanded to ages 16 and up with the goal of immunizing as many New Yorkers in mind.

“I mean it’s fine, but kids are gonna be kids and some aren’t gonna take it,” said WJPS junior, Akiah James.

The week prior, Governor Andrew Cuomo expanded eligibility to 30 and over, with this week being ages 16-29 now eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine.

Although, teens of ages 16 and 17, will only be eligible for the two-dose Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, as it is the only one that has been approved for people under the age of 18.

“It’d probably be best to have the adults take Covid vaccines, before the teens follow with the newest vaccine,” said WJPS sophomore, Azariah Roberts.

For the minors, parental consent will be required to have the Covid vaccine, with the exception of minors with children or who are married.

With more ages open to vaccines, it may be a safe option to be wary of the vaccine since it is new, while learning more about it to decide to take it or not to help limit Covid cases in the state.
