Every year there is a week at the end of January where students take the New York State Regents exams, whether to retake or to improve their score. This year that week was canceled because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
This has also raised the question: will the exams be canceled in June again?
State officials announced in December that they would not hold online exams, so if COVID-19 rates are still high at the end of the school year it is unclear what will happen.
“I don’t believe that Regents will be happening. We won’t be able to safely administer, not enough space or time,” said Mrs. Bonanni, WJPS science teacher.
Mr. Lai, a WJPS math teacher, said “My guess is that they will not happen.”
Finally, it is too early on in the year to confirm anything, but safety will be considered above anything else.
