In June 2017, President Donald Trump announced the U.S. would be withdrawing from the Paris Agreement. This alliance allows nations all over the world to tackle climate change together.
This agreement limits the use of greenhouse gas emissions, stops the rising of sea levels, and helps poorer nations by providing climate finance.
The promise President Trump announced a few years back is now official.
Though some feel this creates conflict for the U.S. and climate change, President-elect Joe Biden has said he would bring the United States back in the agreement.
WJPS junior Eltzy Galindo said, “It’s no surprise that Trump requested to leave the agreement. It’s a shame that Trump does not recognize how climate change is a real problem, this is happening right now.”
WJPS junior Nyla Briones said, “Getting out of the deal made no sense because the U.S. is one of the biggest contributors to greenhouse gases.”
