As the battle continues for President and the nation waits to find out who will hold the top office for the next four years, one thing is for sure is that Justice Amy Coney Barrett will be part of the Supreme Court.
On average justices last at least 15 years in the court. Justices serve until they die, resign, retire, or are impeached and removed from office.
Barett was nominated by President Donald Trump and received enough votes(52-48) from the Senate to get elected as a justice.
She has taken the position of the late justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died in September after serving for 27 years in the court.
Barrett is also a married mother of seven children, living in South Bend, Indiana. Supporters say she has dedicated her life to learning, studying and upholding the law.
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas swore Barett in at the White House under a constitutional oath. Chief Justice John Roberts administered the judicial oath at a swearing-in ceremony.
“I am glad that another woman replaced the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, but I am a little sad that it took us until 1981 to swear in the first woman Supreme Court Justice Sandra O’Connor,” said WJPS teacher, Ms. Papazoglou.
