Creating A Remote Learning Area

Creating+A+Remote+Learning+Area

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many schools had to be shut down and students had to transition from in-person schooling, to online remote education. This means students are taking their classes at home using some form of technology.

This caused students to figure out a space in their homes that is suitable for online learning. Students had to figure out the best way to set up a learning environment to succeed in completing their school work.

According to WJPS junior Nicole Freyeisen, “I would honestly try and ask for as much help as I can. Asking for help is always good.”

Being able to focus and limit distractions is a challenge when there are other family members in the house. Others may also be working remotely on other devices.

Bianca Cavounis, a junior at WJPS stated, “I’ve been trying to find a way to cope with isolation while working at home.” We can always use creative ways to make a nice environment for remote education.

Here are some steps you could take to set up a successful remote learning area:

  • Find a quiet place or corner of a room that is free from distractions.
  • Plug in your phone away from your learning area so you don’t get distracted by it.
  • Set up a divider or screen to separate your area from others in the house.
  • Fill a can with pencils, pens, and other school supplies you might need for school.
  • Keep a stack of loose leaf paper nearby.
  • Use headphones if you need to block out background noise.
  • Have a clock or timer near you to keep track of class times.
