A Criminally Underrated Class

A+Criminally+Underrated+Class

The new criminology 101 class for juniors at WJPS officially started in February taking place in Mr. Thompson’s room after school.

Criminology is the scientific study of crime.

The course provides an overview of the foundations and components of the criminal justice system, including criminal law, police, courts, and corrections. The main emphasis will be placed on the criminal justice process and how the various institutions of criminal justice interact.

The teacher, Pallvi Babbar is a professor at Queens College and an attorney as well. She said, “I am very passionate about what I do. I love to teach the students about things that I’ve experienced in life and I enjoy seeing the shock on their faces.”

Current criminology student, Julia Ragoussis WJPS junior said, “I wanted to join this class because I knew that doing it would give me a college credit which I thought would be beneficial.”

Erick Garcia WJPS junior said, “The first official day was very interesting because I learned about a real life situation and saw how difficult the job can be. The class is very insightful and it develops my knowledge about law and I believe that it is important to know more about the criminal justice system.”
