The WJPS Green Team is an extracurricular group that focuses on the cleanliness of the school’s waste and how to mitigate the growing problem of garbage scattered across the floor. The Green Team focuses on bringing the pro-environment mentality to the WJPS students.
They accomplish this via a multitude of ways such as introducing new garbage bins around the school, managing the garbage cans around the school, and finding new uses for reusable garbage.
They also go on field trips to learn what they could do about the current food waste in WJPS. The Green Team also has big things planned such as making their own clothing from recycled material and even sending representatives to the New York City environmental summit.
Azaleia Martinez, a Green Team member and seventh grader, said, “My opinion on the Green Team is that it is a great way to get students more involved in their environment.”
The Green Team advisors are Ms. Nikki, Ms. Florio, and Ms. Pam. Meetings are held every Tuesday in Room 235 on the second floor.
