Former WJPS student, Luca Damasco and his co-creator Zach Rispoli created a free-to-use software known as, Wick Editor. They recently visited the school to talk about the software, which is a mix of an animation tool and coding and is heavily inspired by other programs such as Flash, HyperCard, and Scratch.
Wick Editor was developed for people who need a tool for animation that they can simply search for and freely use. This was created as a simpler and more efficient way to draw, animate, and even create games.
Rispoli had wanted to teach his little sister how to animate, but saw what was available made them run into troubles. The tools provided were not meant for beginners, too expensive, or just wasn’t easy to use.
At around the same time, their college professor had assigned them to create a drawing program, and thus, the first version of Wick Editor was created.
Damasco said, “I was very interested in sketching, creating flip books, and animation.” He then added, “It worked out really well that we could work together to take our interest in beginner-focused creation tools to the next level.”
