Of the 130 football teams that are associated with the NCAA Division One, only four teams make it to the playoffs. They are LSU, Ohio State, Clemson, and Oklahoma.
The College Football Playoff Committee uses a four team bracket system which is sorted by two semifinal matches and the championship game. The four teams are determined by the college football playoff selection committee.
The committee determines these teams based on schedule strength, head to head results and scores. No team automatically qualifies for the playoffs. This four team playoff will run for another twelve years ending in 2026.
These playoffs will begin December 28th, but before they do, bowl games will happen.
Bowl games are a series of college football games that conclude the season.
The two bowl games will be the semifinals of the Playoff. These bowls are the Peach Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl and they will be the last two bowl games of the series.
These games will determine the finalists for the National Championship on January 13th in the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.
