Club soccer has taken a break and now it’s time for international soccer. These games usually happen over two weeks and consist of two different games within those weeks.
These international games are usually friendly matches. Friendly matches are exhibitions and do not count towards the standings.
The teams are represented by their country’s national team. For example, the United States Men’s National Team will play Cuba in their first match during the international break.
The next FIFA World Cup won’t be happening until 2022, but in the summer of 2020, there will be intercontinental FIFA tournaments called the Copa America for South America and UEFA Euros.
After these tournaments occur, these teams will start their road to qualifying for the next World Cup playing a series of matches with other teams in their Continent.
Each continent is associated with different soccer confederations with FIFA.
South America’s soccer Confederation is Conmebol, Europe’s is called UEFA North America is Concacaf and there are others for Australia, Asia, and Africa.
After this break, there won’t be another break like this until March.
