“BEEP BEEP!” Every day, millions of people around the world who browse social media, such as Snapchat or Instagram find themselves controlled by this sound notifying them of the latest post, a text, or someone who liked their recent post.
Social media controls our every move, which could be a bad thing considering our lives are being watched by millions of people we know. Our social status could determine our popularity in real life because lots of people always follow whose trending.
“I don’t think social status online affects it all because you can talk to some people online but then have like two friends in real life, and like they’re the actual people who understand you,” said WJPS junior Nazly Colarado.
“So I don’t think that your social media status applies to real life because you have a bunch of followers on Instagram or maybe have a lot of people on Snapchat, but that doesn’t mean you’re necessarily popular in school. And then also, like, what does popularity mean in school? I mean is it having a lot of friends or being thought of being cool?,” said WJPS junior Andrea Vincente.
