Spirit week is a week filled with different events that gets students to feel excited and happy about coming into school.
“I think Spirit Week sounds like fun, you don’t have to wear uniforms and I can dress like Alice (from Alice in Wonderland) for character day,” sixth grader Kylie Cuervos said.
Although Spirit Week was to take place on October 27-31st it was pushed back to this January 12-16th due to the other activities taking place, such as Haunted Hallway and Field Day.
“Spirit week is very relevant. The purpose for spirit week is to remind us that we are still young and that we can do anything we imagine, we shouldn’t be ashamed or afraid of dressing up in a way that we feel makes us comfortable or cool,” junior spirit week coordinator Brendon Muniz said.
This week is given once every year as a chance for students to have fun as well as to relieve stress. It’s a time for students to bond and express themselves.
“I think I can express myself more during this week, like during fashion friday,” seventh grader Daniel Ian said.
Muniz planned the events with the help of teachers and other students.
The weeks schedule from January 12-16 goes as followed:
- Monday: Pajama day (created by Brendon Muniz)
- Tuesday: Character day – dress as a character from your favorite book (created by Gillian Paolotti)
- Wednesday: Wayback day – wear fashions from the 1960’s, 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s (created by Marcella Abanto)
- Thursday: Twin day – friends come to school in matching clothing, looking like twins. (created by Brendon Muniz)
- Friday: Fashion day – students may wear jeans IF they wear a top they have crafted in some way (sewn, glued, stapled, painted, etc.) (created by Mrs. Marks)
