Every year during the holidays Greek Club puts together the toy drive, Toys for Tots. This year the Greek Club has been joined by National Honors Society. Members of both clubs have been collecting gifts from December 1st and will continue until December 22nd. All the toys will be going to St. Mary’s Hospital for Children.
“We are working as one to go out and help others. Its nice to see how willing students and teachers are to help the community. The children don’t get as much attention as they need, and by spending a few weeks out of the year to help out is something I like to do,” greek club member Kayla Morell said.
In order to have gifts sent to the hospital, all toys must be in good condition and packaged, otherwise they won’t be accepted. Ages range from infant to teens, allowing for a wider variety of gifts.
Last year the Greek Club donated toys to both St. Mary’s and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, but this year they will be giving to just St. Mary’s. Since last year, the greek club members did not deliver it to the hospital themselves, they will try to bring back the tradition to go to the hospital and deliver gifts.
“I think its a good time to give during the holiday season and we choose St. Mary’s hospital because its part of our community and the area we live in. Students in the clubs really enjoy giving to children their age that may be at a disadvantage at this time. It is nice to know we may be putting a smile on children’s faces,” greek club advisor Mrs.Douvres said.
There will be members collecting toys every morning before school at both the school’s entrances. If there are any questions please contact Mrs. Douvres via email; [email protected].
