Without spoiling too much in the Marvel comics, Luke Cage was originally a man named Carl Lucas who was sent to prison for a crime he didn’t commit. While his stay in prison, he participates in a dangerous experiment which results in him gaining superpowers. After that, he escapes prison with a new name, Luke Cage. However, in some series he calls himself Power man and roams the streets as a hero for hire.

The first few episode starts up slow, lacking some action, but then the plot really picks up with the third episode. Then, the fourth episode gives some backstory on Luke. Yet it still felt that the series lacked any good action. Then from there on, it’s a story about power and the past.

As for the music of the series, it often uses Hip-Hop songs. They help emphasize the show’s setting.

Speaking of the setting, the show takes advantage of Harlem’s history. For instance, in one of the series main location, a photo of Biggie Smalls wearing a crown is always displayed. This photo shows theme of power.

There are people who have enjoyed the overall series. However, there are viewers who have thought otherwise.

“I thought it was bad because the pacing was bad and there wasn’t much character development,” 11th grader Jordan Shluker said.

Overall rating is 6/10.
