Girls rule in Washington DC

First ever #GirlsGovernTown Hall, in which girls debated and discussed about issues that are relevant in this generation, was held at Washington DC.

This event was organized by Global Girls Media, along with its partners, Students Stand with Malala, Bella Abzug Leadership Institute, Ellen Fisher, Ellen Fisher Leadership Institute, and The Global Women’s Institute.

It featured keynote speakers, luminaries, and panel discussions. There were female politicians, journalists, student activists, entrepreneurs, and women in various positions, who spoke about their careers and positions as women in their professions.

“My biggest takeaway is that women are capable of doing so much, especially in the political sphere. We shouldn’t wait for more women leaders when we should all be pushing ourselves to becomes these leaders,” BALI alumni Jasmine Tang said.

There were a total of three panel discussions. Under the guidance of experienced journalists, students moderated questions for women in their professional careers. The three panel discussion topics were: “Girls rights are human rights, right?”, “Navigating media safety & free speech”, and “Should she run? Issues and elections”.

Following the speeches and inspiration, the night ended with a short reception.
