This year marks the 15th anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania. The attack, known as 9/11, took place on September 11th, 2001.

More than 3,000 people were killed in the three attacks that happened on that day. The pilots of the planes were all suicide bombers from the terrorist group Al-Qaeda. The first plane was flown into the north tower of the World Trade Center at 8:46 AM, which later collapsed at 10:28 AM.

At 9:03 AM, the second plane flew into the South World Trade Center tower, killing everyone on board and hundreds inside of the building. The tower later collapsed at 9:59 AM.

At 9:37 AM, a third flight was diverted and flown into the Pentagon, killing 59 passengers and 125 military and civilian personnel.

15 years later, the One World Trade Center stands in the area where the North and South World Trade Centers once stood. It also includes a museum with artifacts from the day of the attack and a mall that includes brands, such as, Apple, Cole Haan, MAC Cosmetics, Eataly, Folli Follie, and much more. It is the tallest building in the West and the sixth tallest building in the entire world.

“9/11 united the nation. Citizens reminisce about the event, and remember the people that lost their lives on that day,” senior Amina Chowdhury said.

Pools of water also stand where the two towers used to stand. In memory, the names of the people that were lost during the attack are engraved on the sides of it.
