Trevor Story breaks record, makes history

Trevor Story, the rookie out of Lousiana State University, is starting off his major league career with a bang. After being selected in the 2011 draft with the 45th overall selection, Story spent the next five seasons playing minor league ball in the Colorado Rockies minor league system.

Since Troy Tulowitzki has been traded to the Toronto Blue Jays, Story hasn’t let up. He played in the futures game and has finished the 2015 season with 20 homeruns.

Story hit .340 in spring training and won the starting shortstop job, beating out Cristhian Adames.

He made his debut on April 4th against the Arizona Diamondbacks, hitting a three run homerun against Zack Greinke. He then hit another one in his following at bat, being the sixth player in the Major League history to hit two homeruns in his debut.

“He’s off to a hot start, but it’s not gonna last. Baseball is about streaks. You get hot and then cold,“ junior Anthony Rolleri said.

It doesn’t stop there for Story. Following up his debut, he hit another homerun to be the third player to ever hit three homeruns in his first two games.

“He’s off to a great start, however it’s a 162 game season. It’s not going to last, but did catch everyone’s attention,”  P.E. teacher Mr. Maroney said.   

On his third day in the Major Leagues, he hit another homerun and became the first player in Major League history to hit a home run in each of his first three games and a home run in each of his first four hits.

In his fourth game, he became the first player to hit six home runs in the first four games of the season. He did not hit one in his fifth game, but in his sixth game, he set the record with seven home runs in the team’s first six games of the season.

Story ended up winning National League Player of the Week Award for his historic start to his career.
