Reporter Kristin Thorne from Channel 7 News came to visit the school and talk to some of the students about what it’s like being a journalist. This visit was coordinated by journalism teacher Mr. Christopulos.

On December 4, Thorne came to the school and talked to the some students fromt the journalism classes in the auditorium. She started out by talking about how it is hard to be a journalist because you are always moving around and you miss things, but in the end it is all worth wild.

“She was very informational and helpful,” freshman Nicholas Degoibn said.

One of the hardest things she says as a journalist is the interviews. Most of the time she see’s a lot of sad people and is talking to people after they have just been given devastating news. She has to play the role of comforting people but also get an interview out of them.

“I learned that journalism is a hard job and that it’s a long process to become a big journalist but it’s worth it,” freshman Eleni Savidis said.

Thorne also advised the students that as a journalist one must be truthful all the time. She also said that not only do you have to report stories that are provided, but writing and coming up with original story ideas are a fun part of the job.

One important lesson that Thorne told the students was that they have to find something they love. Once they find something they love and that they are passionate about, it makes the job even better.

“Never give up on something that you really want to do. Find what makes you happy and never let anyone tell you that you can’t do it,” reporter Kristin Thorne said.
