While students were on vacation, teachers were out exploring the world around us. Between Skydiving over the Florida Keys and shooting in southern fields, WJPS teachers went out and rediscovered their curiosity.

Mr. Vandeurs

“Of course you have stories when six of your best friends are in a van travelling cross country.” Science teacher Mr. Van Deurs’ band The Republic of Wolves traveled on Warped tour. Warped Tour is known as the largest travelling music festival. The Republic of Wolves travelled this summer from New York down to North Carolina, stopping at major cities to perform in a long lineup of various bands.

Mr. Reff

Skydiving from 10,000ft, along with his brother, Mr. Reff had an amazing view of Florida’s Key West islands as he did 360 flips at high altitude.

“Those 35 seconds were the greatest 35 seconds ever, just literally being free falling at 10,000ft in the air” Mr. Reff didn’t fly out of any regular plane, no, the trip up was in a prop plane that maybe held about five people and felt very shaky and generally unsafe. He wouldn’t reccomend the daredevil act for the faint of heart.

Ms. Post

Horseback riding and shooting guns Ms. Post was a real southern girl this summer. Visiting with friends to Brasstown, North Carolina, and stopping in St. Helene in Georgia, Ms. Post experienced the slow and peaceful living of the south. She never realized the big difference between the fast-pace of New York to the south until her trip this summer. “Beautiful scenery, it was just peaceful.”

Ms. Douvres

Ms. Douvres spent six weeks in Greece, where she was able to experience some of the many Grecian islands she’s never seen before. Visiting her sister, and other relatives that she hasn’t seen a while, Ms.Douvres sums up her trip by admitting that she really is a boring person. However she was able to capture the beautiful views of Greece.

Mr. Tesler

“…and I am not a rollercoaster person” On a recent trip to Disney World  with his family Mr. Tesler put aside his dislike of roller coasters and rode Space Mountain. However, he points out how expensive Disney World is and emphasizes the need for planning for the long lines to be able to see everything you want. But his advice for anyone planning a trip to to Disney World in Florida is to go later on in the summer since school starts for the kids down there in August meaning less people to hassle through.

Hard to believe that this is what teachers were doing over the summer, right? Teachers never fail to intrigue us.
