While pitching during the ninth inning, David Wright knew that his team was about to make the playoffs and tried to soak in as much of the moment as he could. Being so young, the last time his team made the playoffs, “I want to remember this moment vividly, our hard work has finally paid off,” David Wright tells the New York Times,

After a nine-year wait, the Mets are returning to the postseason. Met fans remained with hope even while the umpire called strike three on Carlos Beltran, ending the playoff run. Met fans waited years for their team to continue on playing October baseball, and it is finally happening.

Lucas Duda hit a grand slam 417 feet to right field in the first inning, his third home run in the last two games. Curtis Granderson, hit 2 consecutive home runs in a period of 24 hours. Michael Cuddyer’s struck two on third base and Wright’s home run was the ending to their years worth of misery.

The Mets sealed their win against the Cincinnati Reds when Familia struck out Bruce, ending the game at 10-2 on Saturday, September 26th. The Mets had won their first National League East title since 2006. The team immediately formed a mob on the field to celebrate their victory.

Even though, Wright missed four months of the season, due to his back injury, he hugged Alderson and complimented him on the team he had built. With Alderson’s additions onto the team, it gave the Mets enough power to sweep the Nationals twice down the stretch.

“I don’t really care about their win because I’m a yankees fan. The mets are pretty much irrelevant to me so their win doesn’t affect me,” senior HeeJin Kim.

At one point, the Mets went back onto the field to celebrate with the hundreds of mets fans remaining on the field. The Mets now have 7 games left with the Dodgers for home-field advantage in the division series.

“I’m so happy they won. Everyone’s always doubting the Mets and they just proved themselves to be a great team,” says junior Kayla Morell.

Many Met’s fans remained with hope for the past nine years and it has finally paid off.
