This generation’s teens are corrupted

Although people judge the kids to when they were their age, do they really have the right to judge when the kids themselves were influenced by them? Teens start drinking at a younger age, experimenting with drugs earlier, and setting a poor example for the younger generation(s). This generation is run by kids who are more worried about their social lives, than their futures.

“They are totally messed up because we have access to everything, drugs and drinking and they think it’s cool,” senior Luci Laut said.

On Twitter there are photos being spread worldwide of “when I was in middle school and middle schoolers now.” But those people have no right to judge the middle schoolers of this generation because they are the ones who made it corrupt.

On the other hand, someone can argue and say that this has been occurring for many generations and each one just gets more corrupt. They can think that it’s the way the generation above this one is raising this one. The environment and media can be what shapes the upcoming generations. They assume it’s not the teenagers fault, but it’s their surroundings.

”It’s not us who are corrupt, it’s the environment we’re raised in,” junior Frankie Debonis said.

This all goes back to people smoking because they think it’s cool and will get them liked. The generation of today has set the bar to make it seem that doing bad things are so called “cool.” 75% of teens ages 12-17 say they’re encouraged to party with marijuana or alcohol when they see images of their peers doing so, in a study conducted by CNN.

Smoking, and drinking are ruining the lives people have ahead of themselves. But that’s what this generation has come to, to be more worried about their social lives than their educations, than their futures.

“Teenagers today are much different then we were the way I grew up and I’m not that old,” 8th grade English teacher Mrs. Byrne said. “They want everything handed to them and that’s not the way life works, you have to work for things and prove yourself.”

Social media has been a big impact on affecting peoples futures because of the things one posts. Inappropriate pictures that follow them for the rest of their lives. Teenagers of this generation are influenced by what they see on these social media websites like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. In a study conducted by CBS news, 30% of teens said that social media impacts their emotional and social lives negatively.

Teenagers have their whole life ahead of them. High schoolers now look down on middle schoolers, as if they’re too young to be doing the things they do, but yet they are too. High schoolers are the hope of the generations behind them and instead of having a positive impact, they impact younger kids into believing the wrong thing is the right one.
