Taylor Swift donated the $50,000 she earned from her song ‘Welcome to New York’, to NYC public schools.

Swift has yet to announce her donation but it was confirmed by the DOE that she already gave a gift to the school system. The DOE also confirmed that all the proceeds were going to Sing!, which is a high school student lead music production competition.

“I think its a good thing she is helping public schools because she was in that position when she was younger, so she knows what it is like to not have funds to put on a production, so i think its really nice she’s helping that cause,” junior Molly Strauss said.

This is not a one time donation; Swift will continue to donate the money as people keep buying the album 1989 of which “Welcome to New York” is a track of. The album sold over 1.287 million copies in the first week of being released. Theres no information on how much the song sold.

Taylor Swift’s song is $1.29 on itunes and is still continuing to sell. The more songs sold, the more money NYC public schools receive.

“I think its a wonderful idea because being a teacher it is very helpful, and if she wants to help New York thats wonderful, lets just hope she keeps it up and doesn’t do it once,“ sixth grade science teacher Mr. Malmud said.

As the song continues to sell, Taylor Swift will continue to donate all proceeds and help the Sing! get more funds.
