One of the most action packed bestseller book is the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. On November 21st, producer Francis Lawrence turned this bestseller into a action packed movie. Audiences were shocked and excited after gathering to witness the beginning of an end.
Mockingjay is a movie based off of the the novel, Mockingjay, by Suzanne Collins. It is a teen science fiction, drama, adventure and action movie.
This film is a sequel to the previous movies in the franchise, (The Hunger Games and Catching Fire). It is about Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence), who was the previous district 12 tribute in the Hunger Games, as the mockingjay. After destroying the Hunger Games arena in the previous movie, District 12 was destroyed and she was taken to District 13 which was previously thought of as destroyed. The Mockingjay was seen in the first hunger games film as a symbol of safety for her younger sister Primrose (played by Willow Shields).
Katniss was chosen by President Coin (played by Julianne Moore) to represent the districts and become their mockingjay. Katniss was their symbol of rebellion, fighting against the capital and trying to rescue her lover Peeta Mellark (played by Josh Hutcherson).
“I loved it, I thought that it really represented the book well. I can’t wait for the next one,” junior Demetri Mihalios said.
With the new hype of survival of the fittest, Mockingjay delivers a great response. This is the main theme of the movie and it makes the movie more entertaining to watch. Hunger Games grabs the audience with this theme and is a very popular movie. Hunger Games keeps making people eager to watch the next movie and hopes it never ends. This movie is relatable to females around the world who watched this movie and saw how brave and independent Katniss was.
“I like it, but I didn’t like the end. It was like the book same details. I read the book and I know what to expect in the next one but it was amazing,” eighth grader Lauren Leto said.
Suzanne Collins’s series was well received, selling over 60 million copies of The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay in the U.S alone. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part one budgeted $11.5 million on Thanksgiving day. It is the number one movie in box office, receiving a total of $336,450,352 million worldwide.
