36-year-old actress, Arden Cho, best known for her role as Kira on MTV’s Teen Wolf, will not be coming back for the show’s reboot. Cho had been on the show for six years, but faced multiple challenges that led to her decision not to return for the reboot.
Cho, the only actress of color among the four female series regulars, decided not to resume her role as Kira since she was offered half the pay of her female peers.
WJPS senior Stefany Lin said, “I’m disappointed at the fact that there is still discrimination in the film industry between sexes since this has been a topic brought up many times as women, especially women of color, start to pursue more of these jobs.”
Not too long after Cho’s decision went public, actor Dylan O’Brien, known as Stiles on the show, announced he would also not be returning. Though the actor said it was a “difficult decision to make,” he chose to stand in solidarity and support his co-star in standing up against the discrimination she faced.
WJPS senior, Joanna Dalitsouris said, “I think the symbolism of what he is doing is right and important to show that women deserve to be equal. I wish it weren’t the case, and they could both return because their characters are so loved.”
